Mitchell joined us on a free, previously playing at Newport. His previous clubs include Rotherham and Mansfield. The brother of England and Tottenham left back Danny, I can only imagine how inferior he may feel at family events! However, he shows great potential for the Mariners scoring 3 goals in pre-season friendlies….so far! Mitch is a fiery, clever central midfielder with the ability to create chances and break up play. He also has the ability to combine being a box-to-box midfielder or just sit in front of the defence. An example of his fieriness was shown whilst playing for Newport in February earlier this year, after being sent off for what seemed to be a bad tackle in the box, he proceeded to hit the red card out of the referees hand! A response I am sure many players feel inclined towards but refrain…but not Mitch! He and the club were both fined for this incident and was released at the end of the season. He has took the number 8 from recently departed and much loved captain Craig Disley…so he has a lot of living up to do! I’m sure hes capable enough and won’t disappoint.
Sam is a young left winger whose main experience lies at Port Vale. He also has the ability to double up as a number 10. He is a quick player who gets his kicks from beating full backs. I don’t really know too much about this player yet but I am very intrigued to see what he can bring to the side!
The other prospect I’m looking forward to seeing is Siriki Dembele, obviously there is not a great deal of evidence out there to back this up at the moment he’s young, he’s quick and looks like from what I’ve seen and heard he can beat a man something I feel we have lacked for a while lets just hope there will be some quality end product. He doesn’t look like he is going to leave us short, as in pre-season friendlies he has already hit the back of the net 3 times and it’s exciting to see him getting the fans off their seats already!
A product of Huddersfield academy, Nathan is a centre back who has played at Leyton Orient and Coventry (with Slade). With his experience, at 33 he has been playing first team football since the age of 17, alongside Collins (who I think will skipper the team this season) both of them as a partnership will be real assets to the team, especially having lost the likes of Pearson and Gowling.
Harry had been on trial with the Mariners for a couple of weeks before Slade sealed the deal, showing his potential by scoring an impressive 4 goals in as many games. He was at Reading last year but was loaned out to Brighton for the latter half of the season, but released by Reading upon his return. He has played internationally for Scotland Under 19’s and 21’s scoring a couple of times. I think if this guy can reach his full potential with us he will be a great signing.
This guy will be back up keeper to Macca, wearing number 30. He spent his early years at Chelsea, before joining the Canaries in 2013. He’s 21 years old so he has plenty of time to progress and both Warrington and Slade were impressed by him on his trial spell.
I will be talking about a new left back, centre back and striker soon, I hope!
M.U.M are the words!
